Install ScholarPress COinS

The process of finding and installing plugins is very easy with WordPress. Plugins extend the basic functionality of an ordinary WordPress site. Today, you are going to find and install ScholarPress COinS, which add the COinS metadata to your blog posts, which will allow tools, like Zotero, that can read/parse COinS to ingest data about your posts. This makes it easy for someone to cite your work that has been published in WordPress, whether a short blog post or a longer essay.

Installing a WordPress Plugins from the Admin Dashboard

  1. Log into the admin side of your WordPress site: mysite.org/wp-admin.
  2. Look down the left sidebar for the Plugins tab. Click it and click on Add New.
  3. Type in the name of the WordPress Plugin or descriptive keyword, author, or tag in Search Plugins box or click a tag link below the screen. Type in ScholarPress.

    You will find one plugin with that name. When searching for other plugins you may wish to click the Details link for more information about the Plugin and instructions you may wish to print or save to help setup the Plugin.
  5. Click Install Now to install ScholarPress COinS.
  6. The resulting installation screen will list the installation as successful or note any problems during the install.
  7. If successful, click Activate Plugin to activate it, or Return to Plugin Installer for further actions.

Check your work.

  1. Once ScholarPress COinS is installed,  save your first blog post to your Zotero library. Did your name appear as the author of the post? If not be sure that you have added your name to your user profile. COinS is reading what is available from your user profile to determine the author’s name.
  2. In the left sidebar, find the Users tab. Click on it to see the list of users in your site (which at this point should be you). If you need to fill in your full name, hover over your username and click on the Edit button that appears below. Add your name to your user profile.

  3. Check again to see if Zotero reads your name correctly as the author.
